Keeping Ourselves Busy

The days fly by down here and they go even faster when we include additional activities. Shelly and her mom went horseback riding into the desert and then along the beach. The sights were amazing and the horses were gentle. They rode across the airstrip where the movie "Catch-22" was filmed. This is the building that was blown up at the end of the movie. They ate at a 'restaurant' in La Monga which is really a squatters town. Mexicans have built shanty homes right at the coast even though they don't own the land. They have set up 'restaurants' right in their homes serving fresh fish and shell fish that they catch each day.PJ has organized a softball league and has had a great turnout. During the second game there were several injuries (could this be due to our age???) but the game went on. We are playing two times per week and have about 20 people showing up to play. It is all for fun and even with the injuries all are having a good time.

Shelly's mom and step dad are visiting and love it here. They note how friendly all the people are and the feeling of 'community'. Shelly and her mom went swimming with the dolphins at a location where they have interaction programs for children with down syndrome or other disabilities. The dolphins have been proven to be very beneficial in assisting these children with their development. The dolphin they swam with was named Ketsy, was 4 years old, weighed 350 lbs. and was a real sweetheart. They got to pet her, hug her, get kisses from her on their faces, and get a ride across the pool on her belly.
They are truly amazing creatures and both Shelly and her mom thorougly enjoyed this experience.
