The Garage Roof Goes On and More

Image
Supports for the garage roof are put in place. Syrofoam panels are then laid in place as insulation. Rebar and utility lines are put in place. A platform is built and this is how all the concrete for the roof will be hauled up, in 5 gallon buckets and all by hand, and poured into place. PJ doesn't like the height and won't go to the top. It took 9 workers a full day to pour the concrete by hand. In this time each one of them walked the equivalent of 5 kilometers going up and down this 25 meter long ramp. Very hard work in the heat wave we are having (upper 90s). For the second time this week we bring the crew ice cold Cokes and below is PJ handing them out along side the ramp. A Jaunt to San Felipe

Our friends have a beach house south of San Felipe so we decided to go for a visit. Shelly was panicked about leaving while we are under construction but agreed that a break would was in order. It was a 12 hour drive to get there and we took the new road (though some sections were still under construction) that skirts the top of the Sea of Cortez. The house was very charming, the weather was cooler than it is here, there were great sand dunes to ride our ATV on, it was great spending time with our friends, Hunter loved playing on the beach and swimming with new friends, and the tidal action was amazing. The tide would go out about 1/2 mile and we would walk, or ride the ATV, and collect shells. There were thousands of sand dollars and Shelly had a fantastic time collecting these. She will make something out of them for our new home. We had a great time and nothing went wrong with construction while we were gone.
