The Walls Go Up

The walls of our bedroom/bathroom/laundry room building are constructed.We do not visit the site for 2 days and arrive to find this wall built. Unfortunately a door was to be in this wall.After some quick thinking and juggling we find that moving the door to another wall will not affect the layout of this room. Our contractor explains to us twice that he is happy to knock down this wall and reconstruct it with the door as we had instructed but we say
'no, esta bien' (no, it's all good). Acutally visualizing this door on the other wall is probably a better layout for this room so we are going with it.This wall will have the design of a cactus in it made of glass blocks.The cement is all mixed by hand and then hauled in these buckets to the area it is being applied.The walls of the garage are also being constructed at the same time. PJ checks out his garage. Notice how his garage is bigger than the 'living' building?
We regularly bring the crews ice cold Cokes to keep them going. They are very appreciative considering they work in 90 degree temps and the humidity has been above 50% lately. Here is PJ handing them out.

Please Help

We are beginning the clean up process and it will be long and difficult. But everyone (even those who lost everything and we mean EVERYTHING) are in good spirits. This is the bridge that we walk over every morning with Hunter. This is in the Ranchitos just a few blocks from where we live. We are part of a group who are spearheading getting relief aid to those areas hit the hardest. These areas had a wall of water over 10' high go through their communities resulting in several feet of mud being distributed into their modest homes. The loss of their mattresses, all furniture, clothing, linens, food, etc. In addition these areas do not have drinking water easily available. They are resorting to collecting water from the still flowing creeks that more than likely have dead animals in them contaminating the water....but what other options do they have? NONE. This is an old folks home where the residents had to climb a rickety ladder and spend the night on the roof to escape the rushing

Feels Like Summer

The day time temps have been in the 90s this week with the lows getting only into the 60s. It makes for a beautiful day to take out a friend's yacht and spot Finback whales. If this is a preview of temps this summer, we are in big (and we mean brutally hot but tons of fun) trouble.
