Now We're Cooking - Part I

Image
We had our courtyard area cleared of dirt and large boulders and new clean dirt brought in. We plan to plant fruit trees and other vegetation in this area along with having a sitting area. And it is Hunter's favorite place to fetch ball. We had river rock delivered for the driveway and front parking area to reduce dust and help with drainage. The area to the right with new dirt will be our vegatable garden area. PJ constructed a speed bump in the street in front of our lot to slow down drivers and also reduce dust. Shelly painted our address numerals in ceramics class. We started construction on our outdoor kitchen. It will house a full size oven, 6 burner stove, refrigerator, shelving for small appliances, and deep double stainless steel sink. We are going with concrete countertops and had these colored rusty red. This is the raised breakfast counter. This is the view of the kitchen from the upper margarita deck.

Mexican White Trailer Trash

Shelly painted us a coffee can mailbox so that we can get mail when there is mail delivered (mostly local utility bills). She also painted this front gate light cover since we can't seem to find one we like in the stores (notice the use of stained glass paint on the front and sides and black out paint on the back and top on the inside of a Costco nut container). And she strung rope lights all around the inside of our porch area and put out the few Christmas decorations we kept.

Catch Up

There was a pirate day here and we dressed up in our usual Buccaneer Day fashions. Shelly hiked Nacapule Canyon recently and the landscape is entirely changed from the storm. This area was lush with low growing palms and is now scrubbed clean. Shelly took some of the sand dollars collected over in San Felipe last Spring and decorated a door mirror with them. Shelly hung a clothesline (we must fit in in Mexico and maintain our white trailer trash designation) and planted our first plants (mango trees). Another beautiful sunset in paradise.

PJs First Stitches

Image
PJ got 5 stitches in his upper arm last Tuesday night. He was holding a power grinder in the crook of his arm and plugged it in. He didn't know this tool had a locked on position and it was locked in this position. We went to our local Rescate who paged a local doctor who gave him the stitches. After putting in the stitches the doctor realized PJ also had a bad burn from the tool. PJ promptly had 5 shots of tequila to ease the pain. We don't think he will be doing that again.

Worth Waiting For

Our bathroom is completed and we absolutely love it. It turned out so much better than we could have ever imagined. Shelly is continuing to paint our furniture in wild Mexican colors and these are turning out well. We moved our furniture into the casita and are continuing to go through and unpacking our belongings. Our main road was repaired on one side and has reopened. The other side is continuing to be worked on. 22 pallets of food were distributed to the communities last week in continuing relief efforts. 3 puppies were rescued from the warehouse location and all were adopted out (we almost took one they were so cute). One of the tents we had previously set up made it's way to a roof location as a safer place to be. Our last storm provided a gentle rain and it was lovely watching this from our porch. After the recent rains though the bobos are terrible and we have resorted to wearing mosquito netting when we are outside. Hunter even wore one as he doesn't like them either.
