Weekend Tasks

Image
Imported the boat into Mexico and it was a breeze. They fill out all the paperwork for you, it cost $53, and is good for 10 years. The two bars we hit last night in our search for the best margarita were much better than the night before. Our search continues.... A huge gray whale beached himself, sad. A cow went walking down our street this morning. Saw a scorpion. There are lots of lizards of all sizes where we are living and Hunter is very interested in them. The storms must have created a huge yellow butterfly hatching as dozens fly by every few seconds Did laundry this morning so it could hang to dry all day. Mexico does not have dryer sheets since there aren't many dryers. No American laundry soaps either so it was quite a task to determine which one we think we wanted. Hung the clothes out only to have it start to rain about an hour later. Rigged a tarp over the clothesline only to discover that the drain line from the roof shoots right onto the clothesline. Who said anythin

Dog Days of Summer

It is strange not being on any kind of a schedule but also very nice. When we begin to wonder what time it is we then ask ourselves why we need to know this and we generally don't have an answer. Drinking iced coffee in the morning as it is already too hot for a hot beverage. Natural yogurt means sweetened not plain. We have begun our mission of finding out which bar has the best margarita in town and we are determined so we will find this out. So far the bars Tequilas and Marina Cantina haven't scored so well. A friend had given us his Mexican cell phone from when he visited here. We visited the Telcel store in Guaymas and for $14 received a new SIM card, telephone number, and prepaid minutes. Late in the afternoon we were able to sit outside in a breeze coming from the ocean, it was absolutely wonderful. Our skin is still sticky but not dripping sweat. At approximately 10:30 p.m. a chubasco (tropical storm) blew in and we had the most fantastic cloud to cloud lightning, thund

Mexico Time

It is so hot that we HAVE to get beer (especially since we have brought 4 cases of empty Mexican beer bottles with us all the way from So. Cal.) and we find that our affiliated bank has an ATM right inside the Modelo Distributor. Shelly is chomped by bugs on her lower legs. We attempt another morning walk today and start out at 6:00 am. We are approached by a pack of dogs and when we raise our walking sticks at them they stay back. We are walking the hills as at least here we can remain in some shade. Upon returning home a police truck herds 5 wild horses down our street and into the hills. There are no RV/Trailer parts available here and we need some. We've started a list for the next time we are Stateside when a new friend tells us he is going to Tucson today. We give him our list. This is the way it works in Mexico. You let others know what you need and when they head North they pick up items for you and then you reciprocate when you go. Looking today for Mexican cell service an

We Have Arrived

Image
We head to our storage facility in Nogales, AZ and spend 7 hours going through our stuff (the last pack job wasn't very well documented) to determine what we cannot live without for the next few months. We spend the night in the parking lot of the local Walmart. Now we are on our way and we cannot believe it!!! Who knows if we actually have what we want and need or not but we think so. This is exciting, scary, sad, and fun as what lies ahead for us is unknown. The border crossing is easy and fast. We arrive in San Carlos at 6:00 pm on the 17th and it is hot and muggy. We unpack and it feels FANTASTIC!!! WE ARE HOME!!! It no longer feels like we are on vacation but are settling into our lives. We tolerate 83 degrees in the trailer during the night. It takes us all of the next day to finish unpacking and we are amazed at the amount of living and storage space we have. It is so hot outside that you are dripping with sweat within just a few minutes. 95 degrees with 61 percent humidity.

A Side Trip to Lake Powell

Image
As our great friend Eric was already going to be in Lake Powell, we decided to meet him there as it was somewhat on the way to San Carlos. Powell was just as beautiful as ever and we boated and swam for 3 days. Hunter swam so much on the first day that he sprained his tail. He was not able to lift it to wag it for 2 days.
